Adult Tennis Camps: Gaining Clarity in Your Game
Why Go on an Adult Tennis Camp?
I've been teaching solely international adults since 2012. I’ve yet to meet an adult tennis player who didn't want to improve their tennis game. I don´t care whether you play at public courts or private clubs. Adult tennis players who’ve caught the tennis bug, want to improve. It’s having the time to do it that puts them on pause.
Indie TENIS is an adult tennis holiday camp for international tennis players in Mallorca, Spain. Adults come to improve a tennis stroke or deepen their knowledge in singles or doubles to gain confidence in match play.
What I’ve found over the years, is how many adults need more clarity around their singles or doubles games. They’re always wanting more confidence. But by the weeks end, with deeper clarity of the tennis court, court positioning, where to be and why to hit certain shots, your confidence automatically gets a charge!

You’re Never as Consistent as You Think
Mainly because someone’s put into your mind that POWER is the the ultimate key. But in reality, you need to be able to play another ball. Not hit it harder. So increasing your consistency, being able to place a ball accurately and knowing why and when to pull said shot is what you want to know deep down in your belly. That’s when the confidence sinks in nicely.
The right adult tennis camp will use your court time wisely and limit the number of adult players on court with you. With the right attention and cues directed to your individual groundstrokes - you’ll see a shift in your consistency. And in your power level.
When you understand how to use your body and hand speed, power happens naturally. When you understand the optimal moment and position of contact, it changes everything. And consistency happens.
I can’t tell you how many players come with faulty contact points on a tennis camp. So many adults are surprised when they realize what a “ball out in front” actually means and looks like. Everyone tells you to get out and hit more balls, practice more. But if you’re making contact in the wrong place you can forget about consistency.
And the joy and ease in which they find this major breakthrough via a small adjustment can be really inspiring. Your consistency & accuracy will increase.
So, I ask you … how many times can you confidently rally a ball with someone your level? How consistently deep are your balls landing on the other side of the court? How confident are you to out rally someone your level or slightly higher when it matters? At what point does your consistency break down?
Consistency lies in your mechanics or technique. You’ll work on your mechanics all week - on each tennis stroke during your adult tennis camp. Are you looking to over power someone to win the point? Or can you hang in there until they make the mistake?
Adult Tennis Camp: Small tweaks. Lot of repetition
Finding 3 hrs. daily for a week of dedicated tennis time allows you to slow down and let your instruction sink in. Get out the next day and solidify what you´ve learned. Because tennis improvement & deeper clarity happens with repetition.
Why am I doing this? What is the focus? How should it feel?
It takes time and repetition to develop your game. Repeating the same stroke over and over improves rhythm, tempo and timing.
When we get you finding a groove, feeling the stroke you’re working on, muscle memory happens easily. You’ll produce the shot without thinking or forgetting it once the stroke has already been learned. Then it gets really fun!
It helps hearing those same verbal cues, particular to you. We’ll develop those cues together.
Each player is different. Each learns differently. So making those verbal cues resonate and matter to you is fun for me. Think of it as a bonding moment. 😉
Giving your serve daily practice each day during an adult tennis camp using progressions builds a beautiful swing, consistency and always an increase in power.
Most times it's a slight tweak on your toss that's easy to fix. Or showing you how to hit through your serve to drive it deeper into the box. Learning how to move your serve around the service box to keep your opponent vulnerable is nice benefit.
Adult tennis camps: Learn court strategy
That feeling of finally understanding what to play a ball, where to be or how to self-correct your last mistake, feels incredibly satisfying. And you’ll want to be able to do that whether you play singles or doubles.
The majority of adult tennis players play doubles. So the last 3 days of your adult tennis holiday camp are dedicated to doubles point play or a friendly match. The 1st 2 days are typically built around singles strategies. Singles shouldn’t bother you if you’re a doubles player because many things still apply.
Most times, you dive into a drill at your local club and never understand what you’re doing and the purpose of the drill. Most coaches don’t explain a drill, other than the number of balls you’ll hit and where you should hit the ball.
Rarely do you ever know how a particular drill will apply to a point you’ll inevitably find yourself in in singles or doubles. Or where a ball should be hit and why? Where you or your partner in doubles should be in position. Who’s ball it is. When to hang back or when to charge the net. It helps a lot when you know why.
If you´ve been at the game awhile and are interested in playing low-key recreational club tournaments or UTR events, you want to improve your clarity around basic strategies and movements in your preferred game.
The last hour of each day in your tennis camp is dedicated to point play or a doubles match that’s looked after by a coach. You work with basic court strategies for doubles or singles.
The tennis court is a great big ocean of lines, spaces, angles and your biggest opponent - the net. When you understand the courts geometry in relation to the game you play (singles or doubles) you’ll enjoy the game you play so much more!
